Rafting Pacuare River
The last two days have been amazing. We woke up in the cave and everyone seemed to have slept very well. We then did some hiking to where we jumped into some pools and played in some more waterfalls. After lunch in the cave we hiked out and then met Jose our bus driver who took us on a 4 hour drive to the Turrialba area to put us in position to raft the Pacuare River.
Rafting Adventure Costa Rica
The kids did great on the river as you can see in the video below and they have also done great in every aspect of the trip. Being on time, well mannered to all staff, and extremely fun to be around.
Yesterday we had a set back of a 3 hour traffic jam. Fortunately we were in the mountains with a view of the rainforest but it was still a long wait for the kids. I told them how much I admired the fact that not one of them complained. They played games the entire time and even got myself and Jose out of our traffic jam slump to play a game that I am sure I will be playing with groups in the future called WAHHHHHH! Well hope everyone had a good week. Thanks for following the blog and we will have the kids home safely in a few hours. I will try to get a few more post in of the rappel they did in the cave. Enjoy your Day!

Pacific Ocean and Arrival to the Cave
Well we made it to the cave. It was quite the hike but everyone did an amazing job. We stopped half way and were able to eat some of the banana from a nearby tree and then made our way on to the cave with a minor banana fight between some of us.
At this present moment all the kids are getting the lecture of the do's and do not's of staying in the cave for the night. We are sitting behind a beautiful waterfall which we are actually about to rappel.
Before we made the hike we were able to visit the Pacific Ocean which is about 30 minutes from where we started to hike so we got up around 6am and made the trip out of last nights camp site and then played in the sand for 30 minutes. We also saw our first howler monkeys which is one of the 4 different species of howler monkeys in Costa Rica. We are having a great time and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.

Arrival to Costa Rica
The Heathwood gang has arrived. What a great group. They made it on time to San Jose and then we made the 4 hour drive to the Pacific area just south of Dominical. We are staying at a hotel right on the beach with a great view of the water.
We made one stop yesterday which is the Tarcoles river which is one of the most popuated areas in all of the continent for American Crocodiles. We say around 10 of them and they measured up t0 around 15 ft in length. This river is also the division of the Tropical Dry Forest to the north of Costa Rica and the Tropical Humid Forest that runs down the Pacific South of Costa Rica.
We arrived to the hotel around 7pm and the kids all did some exploring and then we had dinner. I have to say I am very impressed with the kids we had dinner together and they all waited until everyone was served to eat their food. You do not see that as much as you use to and it is good to see Heathwood packed some table manners (just thought that would be something parents might want to hear).
The kids seem pretty excited and we have a heck of day planned leaving the hotel around 9am and then heading to a banana plantation. We are actually going to take a walk through an idea to the kids the rough living of the plantation. We plan on visiting some homes and talking a little bit about the history of the United Fruit Company in Costa Rica. Once we make our way out of the plantation it is off to the zipline and tarzan swing. Enjoy you day and if we have signal we will be posting more. The pictures did not come out to good so plan on seeing some better ones today. Thanks for following!
